Can I Get Rid of Stretch Marks After a Tummy Tuck?

There is no perfect “one-size-fits-all” solution to removing stretch marks. Following pregnancy and/or weight gain, stretch marks on the abdomen can create a sagging or crepey skin texture — even after the tummy tuck procedure. Although Dr. Garlick strives to remove as much of a patient’s stretch marks below the naval (belly button) whenever their tummy tuck treatment plan allows him to do so, complete stretch mark removal may not be possible in certain cases. In these situations, Dr. Garlick has not found any other skin care line that he trusts more than the high-quality skincare products from ZO® Skin Health. Dr. Garlick has helped many patients achieve invaluable results for their skin, greatly improving skin texture and appearance following surgery.

Developed by Dr. Zein Obagi, ZO® Skin Health uses advanced science-based formulations to treat, heal, and protect skin health. These award-winning products can not only brighten and revitalize your complexion, but they can also provide a vast improvement in the appearance of stretch marks. While each patient’s needs differ, an effective post-tummy tuck regimen that Dr. Garlick uses to reduce stretch marks generally involves:

  1. Combining 2 – 4 pumps of both “Body Emulsion” serum with the “Wrinkle and Texture Repair” cream each morning and night.
  2. Applying ZO® Hydrating Cream on the affected area as needed to retain hydration.

These steps should be taken both morning and night for the best results. We encourage patients to read our testimonials from previous patients who were able to significantly improve their stretch marks with ZO® products.  It’s important to keep in mind that your skin will get red while on these skin care products. This is normal and expected. This redness should happen, and is the exact reaction we need to know your treatment is working. This generally lasts for about 4 – 5 weeks before the body acclimates to the creams. These products can continue being used as long as you would like to utilize them.
